So not that this guy doesn't deserve applause or something, but some of the best guitarists I've known, aren't exactly dazzling players.

Like with any instrument, after a particular level of skill, it all just depends on the individual creativity of the person. Someone with a decent amount of control over his guitar, a good sense of time and spectacular creativity can churn out infinitely better music than someone who can play as 33992 frets per second, with just average creativity :P
